Traditional Art Basics
Hello, here I will show you how to paint a simple forest scene using negative painting with watercolour.
This will show you how I personally do things, and it is definitely not the only way. Hope you enjoy! ^-^
What is negative painting?
Negative painting is when you paint around the object, instead of painting the object itself.
For example: instead of filling in the leaf with colour, I paint the area around the leaf.
Pencil and eraser
Paper for sketching
(size: B5, weight: 300g/m2; personally I like watercolour blocks which are glued on all four sides)
Brushes (size 1, 3, 6 and 16)
Watercolour paint (cerulean blue, cobalt blue, prussian blue and payne's gray)
Palette (ceramic is my favourite)
Towel and tissues
I like to play around with ideas in my sketchbook before drawing the final piece.
Here you can also practice drawing straight lines with a pencil
